WHAT IS AYC?

AYC (Audio Youth Camp) is a summer camp that aims to provide inner city youth with hands-on education in music production, engineering, songwriting, and sound design. Through a three-week intensive day camp, campers will learn from industry professionals and collaborate with their peers on original audio projects.

WHY AYC?

The AYC was designed as a youth program with a positive outlet to decrease violence and foster empowerment amongst Cincinnati’s inner city youth. AYC offers enriching alternatives to the pitfalls that derail teens such as peer pressure, gun violence, By uniting students with creative collaboration and team building, Graduates will be equipped to better themselves, their communities, and their future. ​​

WHAT TO EXPECT

Hands-On Learning

Participants will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals to learn the operation of standard audio equipment and software, gaining practical experience in recording, editing, and mixing music tracks while exploring their creativity and making lasting relationships. 

 

Expert Instruction

Our experienced instructors, who are professionals in the field of audio engineering, will guide students through various aspects of sound design, signal processing, and studio techniques.

 

Collaborative Projects

Campers will collaborate with their peers to create original music compositions, soundtracks for films, podcasts, or video games, allowing them to apply their newfound skills in a real-world setting.

 

Studio Sessions

Participants will have access to professional recording studios, where they can experiment with different microphone techniques, learn about acoustics, and practice audio mixing.

 

Guest Speakers and Workshops

Throughout the program, guest speakers from the music industry will share their insights and experiences, offering valuable advice on career opportunities and industry trends.

 

Field Trips

Excursion to Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame.

 

Final Showcase

The camp will culminate in a final showcase event, where students will present their Musical project of 1-2 songs to family, friends, and industry professionals, showcasing their skills and creativity.

Recording Techniques

Students will learn how to record and capture audio, microphone types and placement, recording vocals and arranging a song.

Mixing And MASTERING

Students will learn the basics of audio mixing & mastering. They will also learn how to finalize a song for proper release to distribution

Music Production Techniques

Students will learn how to create beats using virtual instruments and samples.

Foundations of Songwriting

Students will learn song structure, melody writing techniques and lyric writing fundamentals

Industry Insights

Guest speakers from the music industry will share their insights and experiences, offering valuable advice on career opportunities and industry trends.
